Morada Place

When the fires came through Altadena, they took a house but not a home. BS stood alongside our clients - a family with deep roots in this neighborhood - to help them do what they were determined to do: stay.

On a modest lot, the constraints became the design. Rather than mourn what was lost, we asked what this place could become - something built for the way this family actually lives, with the warmth and openness that Altadena has always embodied. Exposed wood, indoor-outdoor connection, a backyard that breathes - the house earns its place in a community that has earned its own resilience.

This is not a rebuild in the bureaucratic sense. It is an act of commitment. To a neighborhood, to a community, and to the belief that architecture can help people stay put when everything pushes them to leave. Sometimes the most radical thing a family can do is simply refuse to go.
